Vrinda Sunil


Natyalaya School of Arts was founded by Vrinda Sunil in 2006 at Carmel, Indiana. Vrinda teaches Bharathanatyam and Mohiniyattom. Vrinda has a Bachelors Degree in Music from RLV College of Fine Arts in South Kerala. She has learned Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam from her early childhood from the age of 4 and has learned both for more than 14 years. Vrinda’s Bharatanatyam guru was Smt. Kalamandalam Kala Vijayan. Her Mohiniyattom Guru was one of the founders of Mohiniyattom, Late Smt. Kalamandalam Kalyani Kutty Amma and her granddaughters Smt. Smitha Rajan and Smt. Sandhya Rajan.            

Sharmila Jothirajah

Meet Sharmila!

Sharmila Jothirajah has been learning Bharathanatyam for more than 10 years, and has been a student at Natyalaya School of Arts since 2012. She is very passionate about teaching dance, and has choreographed and coordinated dance performances for numerous events in Indiana and India. 

She serves in the Board of Directors for "Tamil Sangam of Central Indiana" and is also very active in Tamil School management in Indianapolis. 

Currently, she works at Dow Agrosciences.

Vimina Bagavath

Meet Vimina!

Vimina Bagavath started learning Bharathanatyam at the age of 8 from Kalamandalam Sugandhi and then continued her education under Kalamandalam Chandrika. She completed 8 years of formal training in Bharathanatyam in Kerala, India, including theoretical aspects of the art form. She also studied Mohiniyattam from Kalamandalam Sugandhi for 5 years. 

Later, while in Mumbai, India, she had the opportunity to learn Kathak with Smt. Sreya Chattopadhyay. She has performed on various stages and events since 1996 and considers dance as an integral part of her life. Vimina is now continuing her passion at Natyalaya School of Arts.

She is a Finance professional and currently works for Cummins Inc. Vimina resides in Columbus, IN with her husband.

Anjali Pillai

Anjali Pillai began her Bharathanatyam training in 2002, at the age of 5, with Smt. Sunitha Yogananda, learning the Kalakshetra Style of the art form. In 2006, Anjali began learning the dance form of Mohiniyattam at Natyalaya School of Arts, and in 2007, continued her Bharathanatyam education with Smt. Vrinda Sunil, this time in the Vazhavoor Style. In 2011, Anjali began teaching the two art forms at Natyalaya to younger students. She has been actively involved in many of Natyalaya School of Arts' productions, such as Swathi Thirunal and Agni. Anjali performed her Arangetram on September 21st, 2013 in both Bharathanatyam and Mohiniyattam. She is also trained in Carnatic Music. Currently, Anjali is a student at Indiana University Purdue University - Indianapolis (IUPUI). 

Savitha Venkatapathy

We are pleased and excited to welcome Mrs. Savitha Venkatapathy to Natyalaya family as our new Carnatic music teacher! She is a professionally trained Carnatic musician from Chennai, learnt Carnatic music from Smt. Padma Sandilyan and Sri Srimushnam Raja Rao for 15 years. She has given vocal concerts on several occasions.  Savitha was selected by ‘Indian Raga’ organization as a state ambassador for Carnatic music vocals category in 2016. She has also sung as a support singer for dance in Dr. Lakshmi Ramaswamy's group production- Tiruvaranga Kalambagam at Bharath Kalachar.
Savitha was teaching Carnatic music at Chennai before relocating to USA. She currently lives in Fishers, Indiana. 

Lakshmi Sathianathan

Meet Lakshmi!

Lakshmi Sathianathan started learning Bharathanatyam at the age of 6 from Sowmya Balakrishnan Chennai, India and has been a student at Natyalaya School of Arts since 2013. She has been a learner for than 12 years now with performances in Chennai Museum, Music Academy and numerous events in Indiana. 

She believes practicing Bharathanatyam in a diverse team makes her a better team player professionally as well. She works as a Sr. Apps Developer, Robotic Process Automation with UnitedHealth Group. She lives in Indiana with her husband and two boys.
